De huidige Tanto stamt alweer uit eind 2013 en het werd tijd voor een compleet nieuwe generatie. Ditmaal gebaseerd op Daihatsu's nieuwe DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture).
GOOGLE TRANSLATE: "The DNGA is designed not only for mini vehicles but also for the A / B segment models, the introduction of EVs (electric vehicles) and hybrid models at appropriate timings, and future regulations for two generations. Daihatsu first fully renovates platforms, engines, transmissions, suspensions, etc. in total to reduce weight by 80 kg, improve rigidity by 30%, improve driving performance and practical fuel consumption, and improve steering stability and ride comfort. (...) The engine, which is "new in appearance but completely new," uses a multi-spark that fires twice for the first time in Japan in order to improve combustion efficiency. As a new technology unique to Daihatsu, combustion efficiency is dramatically increased by “swirl spray” or high tumble dual porting, which atomizes gasoline, and it is approximately 12% at steady running at 60 km/h and steady running at 100 km/h. It contributed to about 19% fuel efficiency improvement. Furthermore, by increasing the torque over the entire area, the intermediate acceleration time of 40 km/h to 80 km/h. (...) The transmission will be the same CVT made by Daihatsu as before, but it has evolved into a "D-CVT (dual mode CVT)" that uses the world's first "power split technology."
