MG has teased a new model which will sit at the top of its range. The new MG7 ICE-powered flagship sedan is set to debut on August 17 in China as the first product from the Black Label series.
Chinese media suggest that the MG7 measures 4,884 mm (192.3 inches) long, 1,889 mm (74.4 inches) wide, and 1,447 mm (57 inches) tall. This makes it 85 mm (3.3 inches) shorter than the Audi A7, 104 mm (4.1 inches) shorter than the Mercedes-Benz CLS, and 188 mm (7.4 inches) shorter than a BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe. Of course, the MG7 is expected to be considerably cheaper than those models.
MG didn’t reveal many details about the model but confirmed it would be available with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. As reported by Car News China, the pictured 405 VTGI Trophy variant will produce 254 hp (189 kW / 257 PS) and 405 Nm of torque, with the 2.0-liter engine mated to a nine-speed ZF automatic. There will also be a lesser 300 VTGI variant with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine from the smaller MG6 producing 183 hp (136 kW / 185 PS) and 300 Nm of torque, mated to a seven-speed DCT auto. Finally, more powerful plug-in hybrid variants are expected in mid-2023.
We will learn more about the MG7 during its official debut on August 17. The model will slot above the MG5 and MG6 sedans in the Chinese range. As is the case with most ICE-powered flagships, the MG7 will most likely remain a China-only affair, since buyers in Europe and North America are much more interested in SUVs and electrified models.
